Pizza and toppings: delicious ideas

Pizza and ingredients: how do you like it?

Pride of Italian cuisine , pizza has seen so many reinterpretations that it is rightly considered the most versatile dish of all, like pasta. Classic and round or rectangular when cut , but also closed filled with a thousand goodness, even "by the meter": just name it to feel a sense of joy and pleasure.

" What pizza do you want? ", the most welcome of questions, when you order it at home to spend an evening with friends or to avoid the preparation of dinner: pizza is a passepartout that opens all doors to conviviality.

Everyone has their favorite, but all (or almost ...) are open to new experiments: the ingredients can be the most varied , from traditional and indispensable ones, such as tomato and mozzarella, to the more complex ones, additions of flavor and color that can transform it, but that do not change its value as a complete single dish.

Usual and unusual: all the ingredients of the pizza

Tomato, mozzarella and basil , therefore, for the undisputed queen of pizzas, the "Margherita", preferred by those who love tradition and want to taste the tastes in a well-defined way. But what about the vegetables that can be a topping in perfect harmony with the classic: with or without tomato sauce, fried aubergines in "Parmigiana", peppers, peas, Neapolitan broccoli; the potatoes in thin slices on the "Romana" in the pan, the delicious and fragrant mushrooms ... And the cured meats? All are good, some of which must be added when cooked, such as mortadella and raw ham, add that extra touch that makes pizza an incomparable delicacy.

In addition to the variants now universally " approved " also by the pizza fundamentalists, there are, especially abroad, completely unusual adaptations and variations that can, especially in our eyes, appear extravagant and make us twist the nose.

The " Hawaiian " pizza, for example, the one with pineapple and ham, actually originated in Canada: in the great North American country, however, they have not set any limits and have also experimented with the "ghetti pizza", which is nothing but a "Margherita" with a topping of spaghetti hidden under a layer of melted cheese.

There are also those who have seen fit to remodel the "Hawaiian" pizza, replacing the pineapple with an equally inconceivable fruit, the kiwi: it was the Swedes.

Although Costa Rica dares to combine coconut flakes and shrimps, Russia is no less fearless, with the "Quattro Peschi" pizza (salmon, mackerel, tuna and, as if that weren't enough, sardines too), with the addition of onions and aromatic herbs. To be served cold ...

But the ultimate in daring has been reached in Malaysia: the "Boba pizza", inspired by bubble tea, is topped with garlic oil, condensed milk and cheddar cheese. Doesn't that seem so extravagant to you? One moment, the final touch is missing: the tapioca balls ... And, if you like, you can replace the condensed milk with chunks of cempedak, a tropical fruit very popular in Southeast Asia.

What can I say? Nothing. De gustobus non est disputandum !
